Position Summary

The Storage and Data Protection Engineer will primarily be responsible for the organization’s storage arrays and data protection products located both on-prem and cloud-based, in a 24x7 highly available production environment. The ideal candidate will have expertise in storage software technologies, backup technologies, and experience in an enterprise environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage and maintain the organization’s storage systems which include arrays from different vendors (Hitachi and PURE)
  • Migrate data effectively and efficiently between storage arrays on an as-needed basis
  • Plan for storage capacity
  • Performance monitoring and investigation of problematic workloads
  • Provision sufficient storage to support business requirements
  • Configure and zone SAN-connected fiber storage hosts
  • Manage a Brocade SAN environment
  • Protect the organization’s data on multiple sites via on-prem and cloud backup technologies
  • Take existing data protection concepts such as RPO and RTO and apply them to existing and new applications
  • Document application data protection in restoring runbooks
  • Communicate with business and other IT groups over data protection needs and application backup windows
  • Research applications and define new storage and retention backup policies taking business needs and application criticality into context i.e., Tier 0, Tier 1, and so on
  • Work with business organizations to define Disaster Recovery procedures and processes
  • Write scripts to automate backup and/or storage provisioning (REST)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in an engineering discipline, or technical certification in SAN, Backup software, or other related certifications
  • 3+ years of experience working in Storage or Backup or related large enterprise support
  • Should have experience managing enterprise storage over 500TB and 500+ server environments
  • Must be able to work closely within a high-performing team. Good attitude and ability to assist and integrate with other engineers are essential
  • Proficient understanding of and experience with multiple fiber channel storage systems from vendors such as Hitachi, Pure
  • Experience working in an enterprise environment with knowledge of clustering technologies and high-availability strategies
  • Experience with modern cloud-scale backup technologies such as Rubrik, Cohesity, Veeam, or related technologies

Preferred:

  • REST API scripting experience as a means to interface with storage or backup RESTful products
