Position Summary
The AVP Software Engineering is responsible for leading a development team that designs, integrates, and implements enterprise-level software applications for Digital Bank. The AVP Software Engineering is also the team leader responsible for technical design for new projects and enhancements to existing applications. In this position, the AVP must have the knowledge and ability to drive the development team to the next level of efficiency and scalability.
They also play a critical role in defining and creating the future state of Digital Bank in the enterprise. Team members must build trust and relationships through effective communication with technical and non-technical partners within multiple departments to facilitate success. A successful individual in this role is a leader who contributes to the organization/departmental goals and leads the team to achieve these goals. They mentor and coach the team in business processes, designing efficient, optimized technical solutions, identifying opportunities to add value to the business, and ensuring on-time delivery of projects. They identify ways to keep their team motivated and deliver high-value projects.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Manage the end-to-end software development life cycle (requirement elicitation, translating to technical EPICs and stories, building, testing, deploying, and monitoring) on a rapidly evolving technology stack on a diverse set of web and mobile platforms, including JavaScript, Node.js, HTML5, CSS3, ReactJS, restful API’s, etc.
- Act as a primary contact for the business partner team for work prioritization, project sizing, resource allocation, delivery timelines, quality control, process map adherence, escalations, and project communication.
- Facilitate and drive critical technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders
- Possess a deep understanding of the business processes and the intricacies of the solutions implemented
- Knowledge of architectural, design, and coding best practices, including the ability to devise, defend, and communicate them to developer teams
- Troubleshoot and solve technical challenges common to large IT organizations trying to meet ever-rising expectations of the business
- Demonstrate understanding of various software delivery methodologies (waterfall, iterative, Agile), when and how to implement them successfully, and their respective pros and cons
- Works with the Production Management team to resolve production incidents within SLAs
- Work with platform squads to define web engineering standards, best practices, and tooling
- Stay ahead of the curve by aligning architecture, user experience, and security with chapters and COEs
- Collaborate with cross-functional technology and product teams to build, test and deploy products
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity and quality
- Defines and documents departmental processes and standards.
- Serve as a mentor, technical leader, and thought leader for a talented team by challenging them and helping them grow
- Build and manage highly effective engineering teams, conduct performance reviews, and make compensation decisions
- Attract, retain, and build top-notch web engineering talent
- Perform other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of professional experience leading and developing publicly available Web and mobile applications using JavaScript and frameworks like Angular or React, supported by RESTful web services
- Expertise in large-scale enterprise software development best practices and software architecture design
- Verifiable experience as a technical leader using JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS/Express, CSS/HTML in a large enterprise environment, preferably as part of a team of Web, mobile, and back-end service developers
- Comfortable with Visual Design & Rapid Prototyping
- Expert at one IDE of choice (VS Code, WebStorm)
- Sophisticated Git skills
- Proficiency in JavaScript and Java, from a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent industry working experience
- Strong JavaScript, Typescript, CSS, HTML & Browser Developer tools
- Leadership skills to manage and mentor a team of developers across varying levels of skill and experience
- Self-starter who is highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative
- Stays current with relevant technology advancements in the financial industry
- Demonstrate company core values of excellence, ownership, collaboration, and integrity
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills - and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment
- Proven experience in coaching and guiding junior software engineers throughout all phases of the software development cycle
Preferred
- Experience in building native mobile applications in iOS with Swift and Objective-C
- Experience building applications for financial services
- Experience in Retail Banking
