Position Summary 

The Senior Engineering Manager of database platform manages a team of Postgres (RDBMS) and Hazelcast (Distributed In-Memory cache) engineers.  The team performs independently or as a critical multi-functional team member in identifying, planning, developing, and deploying database applications utilizing AWS RDS, Postgres EDB, Hazelcast (In-Memory DB) and related technology solutions. The Sr Manager also acts as the single point of contact for Postgres database & Distributed caching platform team and escalations within the bank.  

The Sr Manager will be responsible for resource management, planning and delivery of database & caching service and act as service/product owner for the bank. The Sr Manager will be responsible for implementing database & caching solutions/processes that maximize system availability, efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, recoverability, and supportability.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • 12 years of experience in managing Postgres databases (EDB Eco system). 5 years of experience should be on the cloud, preferably AWS, with expertise in managing databases such as RDS services in AWS, Cloud native PG, security policy, user authentication, IAM, and database administration in AWS.
  • Experience in life cycle management of database platforms including Install, configure, patch, Migrate, Maintain, and upgrade.
  • Hands-on experience with managing entire platform’s Day to Day operations including alert management, ticket assignments, stakeholder communication, etc.             
  • Should be able to implement effective and maintainable database coding & caching practices that form an architectural foundation.
  • Responsible for evaluating patch releases and patching requests from development, and communicating constraints, issues, and timelines for deployment.
  • Implement & enforce best practices for Database management & Distributed caching platform.
  • Understand and implement best Partitioning & Sharding strategies in Distributed environment.
  • Experience with message queuing, full-text indexing, and other high-performance data concepts.
  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced in managing PostgreSQL & In-Memory Database on multiple operating systems including Linux (RHEL), Kubernetes in OpenShift & EKS in AWS.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux OS and Kubernetes in OpenShift & AWS.
  • Ability to identify bugs & correct database code without compromising data quality, privacy, or security.
  • Hands-on Experience in Jira, GitLab, Ansible & Terraform.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD, Pipelines & automations using GitLab
  • Knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics, and isolation levels. Clear understanding of CAP theorem, ACID & BASE principles.
  • Good troubleshooting skills, Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and/or workarounds, Strong analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both in verbal and in written form, and be Proficient in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems for Client facing experience.

 

Position Requirements

  • Out of 12-year experience 5+ years of proven technical leadership, driving complex migration or modernization projects.
  • Hands-on experience with Distributed database & distributed caching technology.
  • Capacity planning, performance assessment of AWS RDS, Postgres Distributed & Hazelcast or any In-memory database technologies like Redis or Memcache.
  • Strong experience in managing production environments, built Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configure and support of complex RDBMS patterns like cloud native PG & distributed cache in AWS EKS environment.
  • Serve as a mentor, technical leader, and thought leader for a talented team by challenging them and helping them grow.
  • Proven skills with managing product, technology, program management, including communicating to stakeholders to prioritize and plan roadmap items.
  • Experience in Agile Methodology for software development.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, creating reports and presentations to senior executives.
  • Experienced in using MS Office tools, JIRA, Service NOW or other collaboration tool.
  • Experienced People management and performance management skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills & ability to communicate to different audiences (technology leadership, business leadership, team members, etc.) in concise and accurate manner.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL framework and experience in change and problem management.

 

Preferred

  • Grad from CS/ EE or Eng. Equivalent
  • Technology Certifications (AWS, CKA, etc.)
